By virtue of the authority vested in me by section 179 of the Revised Statutes of the United States (U.S.C., title 5, sec. 6), I hereby authorize and direct the Assistant Secretary of Commerce to perform the duties of the Secretary of Commerce in case of the absence, sickness, resignation, or death of the Secretary of Commerce and of the Under Secretary of Commerce; and I hereby further authorize and direct the Solicitor of Commerce to perform the duties of the Secretary of Commerce in case of the absence, sickness, resignation, or death of the Secretary of Commerce, the Under Secretary of Commerce, and the Assistant Secretary of Commerce. This order supersedes Executive Order No. 7900 of May 28, 1938, entitled "Designating John Monroe Johnson and Richard C. Patterson, Jr., to Act as Secretary of Commerce." FRANKLIN D.
