By virtue of and pursuant to the authority vested in me by the provisions of paragraph Eighth, subdivision SECOND, section 2 of the Civil Service Act (22 Stat. 403, 404), it is hereby ordered that Mrs. Jeanette M. Priester may be appointed to a classified position as Under Mail, File and Record Clerk at the Navy Yard, Washington, D.C., without compliance with the requirements of the Civil Service Rules. Mrs. Priester is the widow of Alfred Charles Priester, Torpedoman, 2nd class, U.S. Navy, who lost his life in line of duty with the sinking of the U.S.S. Squalus on May 23, 1939. This order is issued upon recommendation of the Secretary of the Navy. FRANKLIN D ROOSEVELT The White House, May 24, 1940.
